Reception for Dick Hedges

FSCC Board of Trustees to hold reception for Dick Hedges.


Fort Scott, KS- The Fort Scott Community College Board of Trustees has announced they will be holding a reception in appreciation of Interim President Dick Hedges.  The reception will be held May 29 at 2:00 p.m. in the Greyhound Room inside the Dick Hedges Administrative Building.


The Board of Trustees cordially invites current and former faculty and staff; friends of the college; friends and family of Mr. Hedges; and other community members to attend.  Cake will be served. 


Hedges has served as interim president since July of 2014 to allow a thorough search for a new president.  The new president, Alysia Johnston, will begin her tenure as FSCC president on June 1.  Hedges is expected to stay on through a transitional period.


Hedges previously served as President of Fort Scott Community College from 1983 to 1991 and then again from 2001 to 2004.  In recognition of his service, the administration building was renamed the Dick Hedges Administration Building.


Hedges is a graduate of Blue Mound High School in Blue Mound, Kansas.  He attended Baker University and lettered in football all four years.   Hedges earned a Master of Secondary Education Administration and later an ED. S., Degree from Pittsburg State University.


After a long career in education, Hedges was elected Mayor of Fort Scott.  After three terms as Mayor, he was appointed to the Kansas Board of Regents.  Most recently, he was elected to the FSCC Board of Trustees before agreeing to an interim presidency.
