FSCC Nursing Admissions
Prerequisites for Nursing Effective Fall 2011
- Anatomy and Physiology (within 7 years prior to admission)
- General Psychology
- Intermediate Algebra or higher
- English 101
- Introduction to Nursing
Students must have a 3.0 GPA in the above five courses or 17 credit hours.
Students with a Pre-Nursing major may have General Biology and Basic Chemistry waived as prerequisites for A&P and Microbiology. However, students without prior general science courses are strongly advised to take them prior to taking A&P and Microbiology. The TEAS-V entrance exam does test over these content areas.
Application for Nursing
We admit 30 students per semester at the Fort Scott campus and 10 students per year (fall semester only) at the Miami County Campus in Paola, KS.
Grade Point Average (GPA)
Although FSCC offers open enrollment, admission to the nursing program is done through selective enrollment. Successful students must maintain a 3.0 GPA in the pre-requisite courses. Nursing does not use a cumulative course GPA for entrance requirements.
Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS)
Students must achieve a category level of proficient or higher and must have sub-scores at 50 or higher in each of math, science, reading, and English.
A complete application includes the above requirements in addition to:
- Application form
- Health Statement
- Latex allergy questionnaire
- Three letters of reference
