FSCC Masonry

How is this program unique?

This program provides a hands on approach to delivery of NCCER industry-developed curriculum. A student can start this program as early as a Junior or Senior in High School. FSCC’s Construction Trades program allows a student to earn industry recognized credentials at many levels. Through articulation agreements between area High Schools and FSCC, students are provided a seamless path to pursue their educational goals.

What kind of degree is offered?

Students can earn a Certificate in Masonry. In addition to a certificate, students can earn industry recognized credentials through the National Center of Construction Education and Research in Masonry. These credentials will be entered into a national registry that is portable and available to contractors.

What is the employment outlook?

According to the Occupational Outlook Handbook, 2010-2011 Edition published by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the employment outlook for masons is excellent; job growth of 12% is expected through the year 2018. The Handbook indicates that more jobs will go to those “with thorough training that can work on complex stuctures.”

There are many Masons in the current masonry workforce getting closer to retirement age. The Occupational Outlook Handbook anticipates many jobs becoming available due to the large number of masons retiring in the next 10 years. The average mason earns between $16.77 and $28.46 an hour.
