Fort Scott, Kansas – The Fort Scott Community College School
of Cosmetology will host an open house and ribbon cutting on August 22,
2014. The open house begins at 10:00
a.m. and the ribbon will be cut at 10:30 a.m.
The School of Cosmetology was located in
downtown Fort Scott for the past 25+ years.
The School of Cosmetology is now located on the main campus in the former
industrial arts building on the south side of campus. Their new number is (620) 223-2700 x.5220.
Dr. Blake Flanders, Vice-President of
Workforce Development for the Kansas Board of Regents, will be on hand to
assist with the ribbon cutting. Flanders provides leadership for the
statewide Career Technical Education Initiative (also known as Senate Bill
155), including curriculum and program evaluation, advocating for system
funding, testifying at the state and federal level, and most recently attending
a White House summit to address how to help more low-income students reach
college and succeed once they get there.
The Career Technical Education Initiative
funding was a primary source of revenue for the School of Cosmetology
relocation and the current building’s remodeling. Under the Career Technical Education
Initiative Kansas high school students can qualify
for free college tuition in approved technical courses offered at Kansas
technical and community colleges.
Scott Community College currently offers Career Technical Education Initiative
eligible courses in Construction Trades, Cosmetology, Health Careers,
Manicuring and Welding. Interested students
should contact their high school counselor or FSCC at 1-800-874-3722.
