Cosmetology classes begin at Fort Scott Community College

Fort Scott, Kansas – Students are flocking to the cosmetology programs offered at Fort Scott Community College. This summer saw an enrollment increase to just fewer than 30 – with about half using the facilities in Pittsburg and half using the facilities in Fort Scott.

Margo Davis, Director of Cosmetology, praised the new group as “really eager, fun and excited.”

Students beginning their coursework in Fort Scott this month will also be the first students to utilize the newly remodeled cosmetology space on the main campus. The new “School of Cosmetology” building previously housed agriculture classes and the truck driving school.

The Cosmetology Program requires 1,500 hours of instruction and work over the course of nine to twelve months. The completion of the program qualifies students to take the state licensure exam.

Students may elect to continue their education by adding a general education component to earn a two-year Associate of Applied Science Degree. This option has the advantage of building additional skills important to successful employment, management and business ownership.

Career opportunities include salon manager, stylist, color technician, manicurist, demonstrator, beauty consultant, make-up artist and wig specialist.

Students interested in cosmetology will have another chance to begin coursework in January. Interested students should contact FSCC at 1-800-874-3722 or visit forscott.edu.
