Students are flocking to the cosmetology programs offered at Fort Scott
Community College. This summer saw an
enrollment increase to just fewer than 30 – with about half using the
facilities in Pittsburg and half using the facilities in Fort Scott.
Director of Cosmetology, praised the new group as “really eager, fun and
beginning their coursework in Fort Scott this month will also be the first
students to utilize the newly remodeled cosmetology space on the main
campus. The new “School of Cosmetology”
building previously housed agriculture classes and the truck driving school.
Program requires 1,500 hours of instruction and work over the course of nine to
twelve months. The completion of the
program qualifies students to take the state licensure exam.
Students may elect to continue their
education by adding a general education component to earn a two-year Associate
of Applied Science Degree. This option has the advantage of building additional
skills important to successful employment, management and business ownership.

demonstrator, beauty consultant, make-up artist and wig specialist.
