Fort Scott, KS – The Fort Scott Community College
(FSCC) Theatre Department announces several upcoming events this spring and
summer, including a showcase, melodrama and a children’s theatre camp.
The FSCC Theatre Department presents
an Acting Showcase of dramatic and comedic one-acts on May 8 and 9 with dinner
served at 7 p.m. Tickets are only $15.
The evening contains adult material
and is meant to showcase the actor and their process in approaching scene and
“The night will include a full meal on stage
while you watch all the work these actors put into these scenes throughout the
semester,” said theatre director Sarah Mae Lamar. “You should laugh, cry and be
moved by the talent in our actors here at FSCC.”
Besides the Acting
Showcase, the FSCC Theatre Department is hosting open auditions for the summer
Melodrama on Saturday, May 10, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the
Ellis Fine Arts Center.
“Come with a short
comedic monologue prepared, and please, oh please, be melodramatic,” said
Lamar. “I will also have cold reads available.”
Rehearsals start right
after auditions and run for two and a half weeks. Opening is the last weekend in May and runs
through the weekend after Good Ol’ Days.
In addition to the
Melodrama, the Theatre Department is hosting a Children’s Theatre for ages
eight through college age and performing Into
the Woods, Jr.
“Since Seussical was such a huge success,
the local talent had such a great time and performed so well together, we are
going to attempt a full show in two weeks,” said Lamar.
The camp runs from
July 14 – 26 with performances on Friday and Saturday night. Cost is $30 per camper.
