The Fort Scott Community College (FSCC) Debate Team competed at two tournaments this semester. At the end of January, the team competed in the Lincoln Douglas (LD) debate at Webster University in St. Louis, Mo.
“Alex Vore and Jessica Wells had solid outings, but came up one win shy and just missed breaking into out- rounds,” said FSCC Debate Coach Brian Weilert. “Jessica was recognized as the third ranked overall speaker.”
Friday, Feb. 14th, the team competed at the University of Central Missouri (UCM). Freshmen, Alex Vore and Allision Piatt competed in novice LD and open Public Forum Debate. After prelims, both Vore and Piatt advanced to the semi-finals. Vore received third place. Piatt knocked off the undefeated one-seed from UCM and advanced to the finals. She received runner-up.
“Both Alex and Allision were recognized as top-ranked speakers,” said Weilert. “Allision was second and Alex was fifth overall. Along with their teammate, Jessica Wells, the three earned the Bill Cue Top Community College Award.”
