FSCC hosts Skills USA Masonry Competition and Construction Technology Career Fair

Pittsburg, KS – Fort Scott Community College (FSCC) is hosting a Skills USA Masonry Competition and Construction Technology Career Fair on Friday, April 4th, at the FSCC Construction Technology Building in Pittsburg. The competition runs from 7:30-11:30 a.m., and the Construction Technology Career Fair runs from 8:00 a.m. – 12 p.m.

The Construction Technology Career Fair will give participants a chance to communicate with local contractors about the construction industry. A free lunch is provided for all competitors, spectators, participants and volunteers from 10:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

Many local high schools are competing in the Skills USA Masonry Competition, including Pittsburg High School, Labette County High School, Girard High School and Northeast High School.

“This year’s event is different, because there are more high schools involved than ever before,” said Masonry Instructor Nacoma Oehme. “We welcome visitors to this exciting event so that they can see what we are all about.”

The first place winner of the competition will compete in Kansas City at the National Skills USA Competition this summer. There are high school and post-secondary divisions in the competition.

“Out of my four years of teaching at FSCC, this year has been the most challenging and the most fun,” said Oehme. “There are more high school students this year than ever before. The Construction Technology programs at Fort Scott Community College just keep on growing.”
