FSCC Meats Judging Team success in Denver

Denver, Co. –The Fort Scott Community College (FSCC) Meats Judging Team received Reserve Champion in the A -DivisionTeam at the National Western Intercollegiate Meat Judging Contest in Denver on Sunday, Jan. 19th. Team members included Nikki Harris, Natalie Hill, Lane Johnson and James Spieth. There were a total of 10 teams and 52 competitors at the competition. The team was led by the new FSCC Meats Judging Coach Jenilee Martin.

“Coming into a strong Meats Judging program led by one of the best coaches around really intimidated me,” said Martin. “I was worried about the transition, but this group has been exceptionally fun to work with and will make it easy on me as a new coach.”

Besides the team award, Lane Johnson won 7th High Individual, and tied with Natalie Hill for 5th High in Questions. Hill also won 8th High Individual and 4th High in Beef Judging. Nikki Harris won 9th High Individual and 5th High in Beef Grading.

“These kids have come such a long way in a short amount of time,” said Martin. “They have really stepped it up as individuals, which make them a stronger team. I am very excited to see what this team can do at future contests; I know they have great potential.”

The team’s next competition is at South Western Intercollegiate Meat Judging Contest in Fort Worth, TX.
