Move-In Weekend! This is the weekend everyone arrives and gets moved into the
dorms and settled before classes start. It’s a bitter sweet moment for many as
they were excited to be here and get started, but sad to leave their families.
But it was a great weekend; everyone was hanging out trying to get to know each
other better while decorating their rooms. For real though, we have a pretty
funny team…there should never be a boring moment. I decided to invite everyone
over to my house and have a little bonfire and make some smores on Sunday. It
was our first time all of us being together and we had a good time. From what I
can see we are going to have a fun year and I think we should be real good.

We started conditioning this week. It is definitely different from High School.
It is a lot more intense and I absolutely love it. All the workouts are
challenging and push us to the limits. This team not only pushes themselves
farther than that they think they can go but we push each other. The most
challenging workout for me was when we had to pull our summer workout partner
across the gym floor and back. I am a very small shooting guard, weighing in at
127 pounds and my partner is a strong forward and a bit bigger than I am. I
really struggled but my teammates kept me up and going. Without them cheering me
on, I do not think that I would have finished the task. I have a feeling that we
are going to be a very close knit group of girls this year and it is going to be
one of the best years of my life.

Week two didn’t start off all that bad. It was noticeable that the team was
beginning to feel the strain of work outs on our bodies. With coach being out of
town for a few days and our workouts getting a bit tougher, conditioning started
taking its toll. But there was a light spot in the end of the week when our
teammate Erica introduced us all to something very important to her, the
Birdhouse Project! We were able to meet the creator of this project Mr. Kris
Munsch. This project allowed us to dig deep into ourselves and face some things
that we might have been holding on too from any grief or loss. Our team seemed
to really listen to what he had to share with us and I believe it brought us all
closer. In the process of dealing with our issues we built our own birdhouse! It
definitely took teamwork to get those pieced together and nailed solid. But we
did it and we were all proud of birdhouse, no matter how some might have come
out. J So although week two started off tough it definitely ended
on a good note!

Atheron – Freshman - Australia
It was definitely an eventful week with a lot of learning
experiences with 3 of us out with injuries (including me), people getting sick
and Erica’s dad involved in a serious accident. I think that moment when we
found out really brought us all together the closest we have been. Beside some
of the setbacks most of the team pushed through to not only get over the hump of
week three’s workouts but to get better. In addition to all that was already
going on we all had exams so we were stressed about that. But on a lighter note
it was the Gallon Challenge week when we all had to drink a gallon of water a
day for the week (needless to say we went to the bathroom a lot!). Coach decided
to give us Wednesday and Thursday off since everyone was getting sick, it gave
our bodies time to recover and to not workout in the cold. It’s been very rainy
and cold this week. I hope the team continues building the level of effort to
get ready for our first practice which is 12 days from today.

Jataeva Arnold – Sophomore – Titusville, FL
This week started off a little bumpy. After having a four day weekend to
celebrate labor day with our family and friends, the team body’s hit rock
bottom. Tuesday afternoon during conditioning everyone was moving slow and the
excitement level went down. I knew once this happened Coach wasn’t going to let
us have that many days off again. On top of that, we lost three players due to
injury and other conditions. Week three did not start off good for any of us. As
the week continued we began to pick it up a little, but it still wasn’t at our
best potential. Honestly, this whole week I felt as if I had 10 lb weights on
both of my legs. I thought my body was moving at a fast pace, but it really
wasn’t. I know for a fact the whole team felt the same way because they were
dragging as they ran. Coach suggested we take ice bathes this week and I cried
the whole ten minutes, but it sure did feel good afterwards.
September 20th – 26th
Jamisha Crawford – Freshman – Kansas City, KS
The week started off with sniffles and a little cough then by the end of
the week, the sniffles and coughs had turned to sore throats and shots in the
butt. Everyone was sick and only a few were feeling fine. The weather was cold
and windy most of the week which made us all just wanted to sleep. Thursday a
few of our college’s teams walked in Annual Pioneer Harvest Festival Parade
passing out candy to all the little kids around the community, we had a lot of
fun as a team doing that together. Saturday I worked my first hot dog stand and
saw the Amish people for the first time while I was working. Later that day we
were off to Worlds of Fun for a fundraiser. I learned how to make funnel cakes,
as well as learning how to make them I got to taste them. That night I saw some
of the weirdest looking characters ever because they were doing their Haunted
theme park during this time.
