At Fort Scott Community College, Environmental Technologies are not limited to a study of earth's sciences, but include a search for solutions for all environmental concerns. FSCC trains professionals to fill the numerous employment opportunities in both the public and private sectors. It is our mission to help environmental specialists develop strategies that preserve the environment and improve the quality of life one community at a time.
FSCC is one of the few institutions in the nation where student’s can earn either an Associate of Applied Science degree or a one-year Environmental Specialist certificate. The Department currently offers six areas of specialization:
Water Plant Operation Water Distribution System Operation Wastewater Treatment Plant Operation Wastewater Collection System Operation
Utilities Maintenance Utilities Management
Students who complete the Associate of Applied Science degree qualify to take the Operator-in-Training certification test from the Kansas Department of Health and Environment. An articulation agreement with most of the colleges and universities in Kansas will allow students to continue their formal education.
Our Vision:
We believe that what we do in the Water and Wastewater Industries and the Environmental Sciences makes a difference and truly matters to our customers and also to our very own families and ourselves. We believe that we are only stewards of the land, air and water for a short time, and that we should do whatever we can to leave it better than we received it. Therefore, we know the importance of good education being delivered to the operators of our water and wastewater plants. I am committed to this endeavor.
We all know the difficulties faced by the economy and the water and wastewater industries, however by shared communication and servant leadership we can carry on with the good affluence of education and training for our operators and the entire field.
